Matchbooks and boxes are nearly an item of the past. When smoking was common, most every establishment advertised with matches. Today they are rare and growing evermore obsolete, many of the places and events advertised have been long forgotten. Enjoy the daily recollection...

Browning Aerial Service
We used to head over from Bartholamew Park and watch the small planes taxi in and out. And no one ever minded a bunch of kids hanging out. Long gone now, along with their WW2 Era DC-3 parked out front. A tornado took out the antique plane and the so-called 'Peace dividend' took the whole Airport and relocated it to a more remote location. Islamofascists, nihilistic anarchists and sicophantic kleptocrats foreclosed on Peace.

Magic Time Machine
It was the best place in town for a kid to have a birthday... there and Scampi's Pizza Palace. There's still a Magic Time Machine in Dallas.

Empty Bottle
Yes! "Drinking should be fun!!" Wow... this was a nice find. I might not have even remembered the name of my favorite hangout dive in Chicago. The Empty Bottle was a hoot. The beer was cold and cheap, the gals were pretty and unpretentious, and the music was good. I even got along with the resident bar cat. The X-rays hanging over the bar were an interesting embellishment.

Compadre's
Boy! Compadre's is a mixed bag of memories. Being just under 21, I think I was still bussing tables, since it had a full bar. It was a good crowd for the most part, but something really sleezy was happening there under the radar, and I'm pretty sure it involved the managers and narcotics. The food was okay and the Rita's were "Killer." And the live music there on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was a blast. That's back when people got sh%&-faced drunk when they went out and no-one's ever happy to be cut off. There was a great Cure cover band that used to play there... "Double Take" might have been the name. They did a authentic rendition of "Just Like Heaven." Eventually I got fired, when the incompetent assistant Manager needed a scape goat for his error. It might have also had something to do with the fact that I flushed a bag of unknown pills (I found in his booth) down the toilet. After that, thanks to my friend Jerry, I scored a waiting position at a new thai restaurant... called Satay. How's that for a recollection?
