Boy! Compadre's is a mixed bag of memories. Being just under 21, I think I was still bussing tables, since it had a full bar. It was a good crowd for the most part, but something really sleezy was happening there under the radar, and I'm pretty sure it involved the managers and narcotics. The food was okay and the Rita's were "Killer." And the live music there on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was a blast. That's back when people got sh%&-faced drunk when they went out and no-one's ever happy to be cut off. There was a great Cure cover band that used to play there... "Double Take" might have been the name. They did a authentic rendition of "Just Like Heaven." Eventually I got fired, when the incompetent assistant Manager needed a scape goat for his error. It might have also had something to do with the fact that I flushed a bag of unknown pills (I found in his booth) down the toilet. After that, thanks to my friend Jerry, I scored a waiting position at a new thai restaurant... called Satay. How's that for a recollection?
